Let the October Fun Begin!

Since I’ve never been much of a football fan, my favorite part of October is definately Halloween. Wait… not even the actual Halloween, the preperation for it.

Haunted Houses were neighborhood things when I was living in California as a young child. We lived in the suburbs, on a cul-de-sac in which all the neighbors banded together to create “Halloween Village”. Tame, toddler friendly scariness. By the time I was 12, we’d moved to PA and discovered the rockinest haunted house I’ve ever seen run by Youth for Christ. I was hooked, there just isn’t a comparable adrenalin rush to being scared half to death in the company of your friends.

Considering my house of perpetual remodeling looks like a haunted house most of the time, it was a natural extension to top it off every October. This year I have the grandgirls, so party plans are already on the drawing board. What is more fun then developing a menu of monster toes and blood punch? Hmmm…. I wonder where I stowed that cauldron and broom from last year?

The free-lance writer is the person who is paid per piece or per word or perhaps. (Robert Benchley)

Welcome to My Neighborhood!

Shortly after I learned to use a spoon, I learned to use a pencil. Crippled by shyness as a child, I found that the things I couldn't say out loud, I could say with a pen, and then a typewriter. The shyness was overcome with education and age...but the need to write has never left me.
