Brain Damaged

March 19, 2009 at 3:20 am 10 comments

I think I burned out several hundred brain cells today writing.  Did I tell you I started a new job for a newspaper?  I didn’t?  Imagine that….Well, I wasn’t supposed to start until April first, but the correspondent who’s place I’m taking has stopped writing, so my editor asked me to move up a week.  Holy cow!  I spent Monday and Tuesday chasing down leads and doing interviews.  I spent all…day….today writing the stories.  I’m exhausted.  What I hate most, is that with such a short deadline it isn’t my best writing.  Ugh.

Never having done it I would imagine that the job revolves around deadlines and the pressure to meet them. Could be stresful if you want to it to be your best. But maybe the question to ask is what do your readers want? Is it just information in a pleasant readable way, then you dont have to worry so much, as you’re not trying to hold their attention for the length of a chapter / novel, just a columns length? Says he with no experience at all.
Any way Kat good luck. I am sure that after reading your blog for a long time your style will please very many readers of the paper.

A job is good! And I am certain they know you can do better, after-all you were pitch hitting.

    Hi Kat.
well I knew that the job was coming up, but also know that for you to cope, it has to be on one of your lists or at least in your day planner. LOL to spring it on you a week early, WOW ! Panic with a capital “P”
Have fun with it and go with the flow.
May have to log on the that particular paper to see what my friend is up to.
    Love from Downunder,

Congratulations! To get a job in this day and time–and with a newspaper to boot — is quite an accomplishment. I’m sure your readers are going to be as charmed as your fellow bloggers. Good luck.

Enjoy, enjoy! You got a job when newpapers are closing and when jobs are hard to find. I remember having to meet deadlines for television…it was exciting. A different style of writing.

The free-lance writer is the person who is paid per piece or per word or perhaps. (Robert Benchley)

Welcome to My Neighborhood!

Shortly after I learned to use a spoon, I learned to use a pencil. Crippled by shyness as a child, I found that the things I couldn't say out loud, I could say with a pen, and then a typewriter. The shyness was overcome with education and age...but the need to write has never left me.
