Lengthening the Time

December 13, 2011 at 6:14 am 4 comments

I once made the mistake of bragging in front of my brother-in-law about quitting smoking for three months.  He reminded me that I was smoking at that moment.  I said “Yes, but I quit for three whole months!”  to which he answered:  “You didn’t quit smoking, you just lengthened the time between cigarettes.”  I’ve decided to adopt that philosophy with my poor, neglected blog.  I never stopped blogging, I just lengthened the time between posts.  But even then, a year is really pushing it!

2011 was a busy year.  I wrote and directed two plays in two different towns (both an hour away from where I live).  Babysat my youngest daughter’s baby through colic, acid reflux, teething, multiple falls, scrapes and tumbles (she’s fearless and athletic).  Wrote mountains of internet content until my company decided to squeeze all us non-professional writers out.  I painted a Very Hungry Caterpillar mural on one daughter’s classroom wall, and painted fairies and butterflies on the walls of my 9th grandchild’s nursery.  She’ll be here after Christmas, and I’m already sure this one will be the artsy one like me.

My dog Walker is still the joy of my life.  Pap is now on disability.  We’re still living in the well appointed basement of my daughters house.

So what’s everybody else been up to?

Thanks for coming by my place and I’m glad to see you back!!! I’m pretty slothful these days but, as we all know, life intrudes on blogging and visiting y’all hopefully the new year will see a more productive Kay.

Thanks Dave. I’d been missing the blog, but just couldn’t get motivated to get back here. It was your comment that got me going again. Thank you, and Happy Holidays to you too!

Thanks Kay! Perhaps the new year will make us both more productive!

HI Kat, the last time I was here…some weeks ago…you hadn’t been here..see…I’ve been checking.

    I’m so glad you’re back.

And Walker too. I thought he’d disappeared and you were so upset, you’d stopped blogging.

The free-lance writer is the person who is paid per piece or per word or perhaps. (Robert Benchley)

Welcome to My Neighborhood!

Shortly after I learned to use a spoon, I learned to use a pencil. Crippled by shyness as a child, I found that the things I couldn't say out loud, I could say with a pen, and then a typewriter. The shyness was overcome with education and age...but the need to write has never left me.
